About St Margaret's Montessori

A brief history of St Margaret's Montessori

St Margaret's Montessori was started in 1990 by Joy Colbert. It began in the basement of Number 8 Victoria road with just 13 children, before expanding into the whole building a few years later. Originally St Margaret's Montessori taught children up to the age of 7, but in 2008 the decision was made to close the upper school, and to increase the size of the nursery.

Sadly, Joy died in September 1996, and Janet Yandell took over as Head teacher. In 1999 St Margaret's was sold to Janet, teacher Eileen Tiahlo and Deborah Shingleton.

When Janet retired in 2010, Eileen took over as Head.

Norton and Elaine York bought Sunflower in April 2014. Mr & Mrs York also own Broomfield House School in Kew www.broomfieldhouse.co.uk and Kew Montessori school  www.kewmontessori.co.uk
